An instrument I work with will only export images using the.mdi format, which it appears is not supported in Office 2011 for Mac (or any other version of Office for Mac for that matter). Is there any way to either open this file on a mac or convert to a format which will open on a Mac? Preferably a solution that would involve freeware, or at least not running bootcamp or parallels just to run Windows and install the Windows version of Office 2003.

This means people who were using 2003 don't have to download a big file with the package for the Sharepoint Designer 2007 - just to install a small part of it. It's not clear to me whether MSO 2007 had the MODI software in it.I only ever used some bits of a Trial version of MSO 2007. If it did.maybe those people who 'gained' their MODI that way could also use their disk made defunct when they installed MSO 2010? Hope all this makes some sense (it only will if you have looked at the article 982760, and perhaps printed it off). And helps.someone else like me who was cheesed off to find that going over to MSO 2010 of course has it's downsides!

See for more information Anyways, I am just wondering if there is some sort of app or utility available to convert these files into a more common format available for Mac. The only solutions I have seen so far involve expensive Adobe software packages or running the Windows version of Office using either Bootcamp or Parallels, as mentioned in my previous post. In order to solve my problem I had to open in Microsoft Office Document Imaging on a Windows machine running Office 2003, then copy the image and paste it into paint, and finally resave it as a.JPEG file. Although it was an option to resave as.TIF in Microsoft Office Document Imaging, when I did so, I was unable to open the file in Mac OS, even when using programs that normally open.TIF formatted images with no difficulty. Even though I have solved my problem for now, I would still love to know about it if there is a less roundabout solution available since I wasted probably 4 hours out of what could have otherwise been a productive day getting this to work. 'While you can open and edit TIFF files created with Office Document Imaging by using many other graphics applications, MDI files can only be opened or edited in Office Document Imaging. If you are going to share files with people who are using Office Document Imaging 2002, or another document imaging program, save your files in TIFF format for compatibility.'
